Show cause notices issued to 67 theatres in six months

FAISALABAD  –  The Punjab Council of Arts Faisalabad Division has issued show cause notices to 67 theatres during last six months on charges of vulgar and obscene performances.  According to the Deputy Director Faisalabad Arts Council (FAC), a vigorous campaign was launched to restore the cultural integrity of theatre and promote it as a refined source of family entertainment. He said that during a strict crackdown against vulgarity, obscenity, and unethical content in commercial theatres across Faisalabad division, the FAC team issued show cause notices to 67 theaters during last six months on charge of violations of cultural and ethical standards in stage dramas. The FAC teams also sealed premises of two theaters after their involvement in obscene dialogues, indecent acts, and vulgar dance performance during this period, he added. He said that the drive would continue in future as a part of a comprehensive strategy to rehabilitate Punjab’s vibrant cultural legacy and transform theatres into dignified platforms of creative and wholesome entertainment. He said that FAC teams in collaboration with district administration are closely monitoring the theaters through surprise inspections, night-time surveillance and an advanced e-monitoring system to track their compliance in real time.

He said that the crackdown is a clear message for theatre owners, directors and performers that adherence to prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is non-negotiable. They are also urged to highlight the richness of Punjabi language and culture while delivering quality and ethical performances, he added.
