The Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme 2025 has extended its registration deadline from May 20 to June 1, providing a renewed opportunity for students to apply and benefit from this transformative initiative aimed at enhancing digital literacy across Pakistan.
This extension offers a second chance for students who may have missed the earlier deadline to register for the scheme, which is part of the broader Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. The initiative seeks to distribute 100,000 laptops to talented students in an effort to support smart education, research, and innovation.
Officials report a surge in traffic to the scheme’s official website, with thousands of students having already submitted their applications. Phase IV of the scheme is now open, accompanied by a clear set of eligibility guidelines to ensure a fair and merit-based selection process.
Eligible applicants include students currently enrolled in PhD, MS/MPhil, Master’s, or Bachelor’s programs at recognized public sector universities. A minimum CGPA of 2.80 or 60% marks is required for eligibility. First-year undergraduates must submit their HSSC results, while new MS/PhD entrants must present transcripts of their previous degree.
The laptop distribution will adhere to a quota system, with 18% of the devices reserved for students in Balochistan and 5% for distance learning students, split equally between the Virtual University and the Allama Iqbal Open University.
Importantly, only currently enrolled students qualify for the scheme. Those who have graduated are not eligible, regardless of prior application status. Selection will be based on inter-se merit within departments and programs, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Students can apply through the Prime Minister’s Digital Youth Hub (DYH) App or by visiting the official PMYP website at www.pmyp.gov.pk, which is now active.
Following the release of the provisional merit list, a 15-day window will be available for applicants to raise objections or concerns. The final list will be published after all issues are addressed.
More than just a distribution drive, the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme represents a strategic investment in Pakistan’s youth. By bridging the digital divide, the government aims to foster innovation, academic growth, and future-ready skills among students.
With continued oversight on transparency and effectiveness, the initiative is poised to leave a lasting mark on the nation’s educational ecosystem, empowering the next generation to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s development.
