
VEHARI – On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, a meaningful event was organised by the Pakistan Yoga Council in Vehari. After the morning yoga session, participants held placards and raised awareness against tobacco use, promoting the message of a healthy and smoke-free society. Addressing the event, renowned legal expert Advocate Sheikh Fazal ur Rehman said that tobacco use is a silent killer that severely affects not only human health but also the social fabric and economy. He emphasised the need for strong legislation and continuous awareness campaigns to protect the younger generation from this deadly addiction. Social activist Abdul Aziz Bhutta said that cigarette smoking claims millions of lives every year. He highlighted that each cigarette reduces a person’s life by approximately 11 minutes. He expressed concern that low-income individuals often risk their own and their children’s wellbeing by spending on cigarettes instead of essential needs. He called for serious attention from society towards this grave issue.Notable participants included well-known transporter Chaudhry Muhammad Asif, former councillor Malik Manzoor Hussain, Baba Sheikh Shahid, Sheikh Abdul Waheed, and others. At the conclusion of the event, yoga practitioners displayed placards bearing anti-tobacco slogans and pledged to continue such awareness activities in the future to help build a healthier, more informed society.
