LAHORE – Najam Mazari, head of an institute conducting research on organic food and products, has termed the agreement by a Pakistani organic meat company to supply meat to a supermarket in the United Arab Emirates as an exceptional achievement, saying the development has opened up vast prospects for new opportunities. In a statement, Najam Mazari said that the global trend of consuming organic food and products is growing steadily, and this is a golden opportunity that requires advance preparation to fully capitalize on. He emphasized that once government-level facilities for laboratory testing, certification, and labeling are established, it will no longer be difficult to prove that Pakistani organic food and products meet the required international standards. He urged the government to immediately initiate consultations on this matter and to establish a dedicated department or authority tasked with formulating recommendations, enabling the private sector to move forward in line with them. Najam Mazari further said that just one Pakistani meat company has secured a deal worth millions of dollars, which will not only create employment opportunities in Pakistan but also generate valuable foreign exchange for the country.
He noted that many companies in Pakistan are already producing high-quality organic food and products, but they are in urgent need of government support to succeed in the export market.
