The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has dismissed reports suggesting an extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns, clarifying that the cut-off date of September 30, 2025, remains unchanged.

In a statement issued on Monday, the FBR described such reports as “false, baseless, and misleading,” adding that attempts to link the supposed extension with recent floods were also unjustified.

The authority noted that most taxpayers live in areas unaffected by floods and have had sufficient time to meet their obligations. It further rejected claims of a slowdown in the IRIS system, stating that the platform is fully functional and equipped with a simplified tax return form.

The FBR cautioned that late filing will result in penalties and late-filer status. However, it clarified that in cases of extreme hardship, taxpayers may seek an extension of up to 15 days—provided due taxes are paid by September 30 and approval is granted by the relevant committee.
