Fatima Sana’s Conquerors dominate as National Women’s T20 enters crucial stage

LAHORE  –  The ongoing National Women’s T20 Tournament 2024-25 has entered an exciting phase with standout individual performances and intense competition across all five participating teams. Held at two venues in Karachi, the tournament has completed eight thrilling matches, with Fatima Sana’s Conquerors emerging as the early frontrunners.

The Conquerors are sitting comfortably at the top of the points table with three wins from as many matches, remaining the only unbeaten side thus far. Led by all-rounder Fatima Sana, they have combined solid teamwork with match-winning performances to set the pace of the competition.

The tournament, comprising 22 matches, is structured across ten rounds featuring double-headers. Following the league stage, the second and third-ranked teams will face off in a Qualifier, with the winner meeting the table-toppers in the final at the National Bank Stadium on 24 May.

Sidra Amin’s Stars are placed second with two wins from three games, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Challengers. Challengers, captained by Omaima Sohail, hold third place after securing one win in three outings. They recently lost a nail-biting contest against Muneeba Ali’s Invincibles, who notched their first victory in four games. Strikers, also with one win in three matches, are currently at bottom due to an inferior net run rate.

Individually, Fatima Sana has been the standout batter, topping the run charts with 173 runs, including two stellar knocks of 85* and 88 while batting at number five. Sidra Amin follows closely with 171 runs, and Muneeba Ali has compiled 162 runs, placing third on the list.

In the bowling department, Tuba Hassan (Stars) and Saima Malik (Invincibles) lead the wicket-takers’ chart, both claiming seven wickets. Rameen Shamim, Waheeda Akhtar, Zaib-un-Nisa Niaz, and Omaima Sohail have also made valuable contributions with five wickets apiece.

Among wicketkeepers, Sidra Nawaz has demonstrated sharp reflexes behind the stumps with seven dismissals, followed by Muneeba Ali (5) and Najiha Alvi (3). On the fielding front, Ayesha Zafar, Nashra Sundhu, Shawaal Zulfiqar, and Syeda Aroob Shah have each taken three catches. As the tournament approaches its midway mark, Rounds 5 and 6 are scheduled for 13 and 14 May, respectively.
