LAHORE – Pakistan and South Africa women’s cricket teams begin their three-match One-Day International (ODI) series today (Tuesday, September 16, 2025) at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The fixtures, scheduled for September 16, 19, and 22, will all start at 3:30 pm (PKT).This is South Africa’s third visit to Pakistan in as many years, following their 2022 and 2023 tours, both of which were crucial in preparing for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The current series will provide both sides with a vital opportunity to fine-tune their combinations ahead of the eight-team World Cup, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan’s 15-member squad will be led by all-rounder Fatima Sana, while Laura Wolvaardt captains the Proteas. Pakistan’s preparations included a two-week pre-series camp in Lahore with scenario-based practice matches. The squad also features an exciting young talent, Eyman Fatima, who made her T20I debut against Ireland last month and now awaits her ODI debut. Historically, South Africa hold the edge, having won the majority of the 28 ODIs played between the two nations. However, Pakistan will take confidence from their last meeting, where they defeated the Proteas by eight wickets in Karachi during the ICC Women’s Championship in September 2023. In terms of individual performers, Aliya Riaz has been Pakistan’s standout batter against South Africa, with 351 runs in 11 ODIs, including three half-centuries. On the bowling front, Nashra Sundhu has enjoyed success, claiming 16 wickets in 12 matches at an impressive economy rate of 3.91. Speaking to PCB Digital, captain Fatima Sana emphasised the importance of the series:“A series like this is very beneficial ahead of the World Cup. It’s an ideal chance to put our hard work from the camp into practice. Everyone knows Pakistan relies on its bowling attack, but this time we want our batting unit to step up and provide stronger support.” The PCB has announced free entry for fans. Spectators will need to present their original ID cards at the gates. Family and female spectators will be seated in the Fazal Mahmood Enclosure at the Jinnah End, while male spectators, including school and college students, will be accommodated in the Saeed Anwar Enclosure.
