ISLAMABAD – GM & the Head of Satellite Planning at SUPARCO Aisha Rabia Ahsan Friday described the launch of the remote-sensing satellite as another “Eye on the Sky” which will enhance Earth monitoring, enabling more accurate predictions and early alerts for natural disasters and will assist in evacuating people from sensitive regions during emergencies. In an exclusive conversation with PTV, the Aisha Rabia provided insight into the upcoming launch of Pakistan’s new remote-sensing satellite, which she described as a significant advancement in Earth monitoring. According to Rabia, the satellite, dubbed “Eye on the Sky,” is designed to closely monitor the planet’s movements and enhance the accuracy of early warnings for natural disasters.The satellite will play a key role in predicting and mitigating the effects of calamities, such as earthquakes and floods, offering invaluable data to authorities for timely intervention, she added. Rabia emphasized the importance of the satellite in disaster management, highlighting that it will greatly aid in the evacuation of people from vulnerable regions during emergencies, she adding, this technology will enable us to identify and assess high-risk areas in real-time, allowing for faster and more efficient evacuations”. In her conversation, Aisha Rabia admired the partnership with the collaborating countries that made the remote-sensing satellite initiative possible. She highlighted that this development is the culmination of years of cooperation, noting that the first satellite was launched in 2018, followed by a second one at the beginning of 2025. She expressed her gratitude for the continued collaboration, acknowledging the vital role played by the partner nations in bringing these projects to fruition.”These satellites are not just a leap in technology but also a testament to the strength of international partnerships in advancing space exploration,” she added. Rabia went on to emphasize that the upcoming third satellite, set to launch just six months after the second, is a major technological advancement. She said that with enhanced capabilities and more frequent data collection, this new satellite will provide clearer, more detailed imagery of Earth, enabling faster and more accurate monitoring of environmental changes.
“This will give us a much clearer and real-time picture of the planet’s movements, which is crucial for effective disaster management and planning,” she explained.
