Arshad Nadeem’s Asian Athletics gold sparks national celebration



LAHORE  –  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari have congratulated Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem on winning the gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championship held in Gumi, South Korea.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took X (formerly Twitter) to praise Arshad Nadeem for bringing immense pride to the nation. “My heartfelt congratulations to Arshad Nadeem. You have made the entire nation proud with your outstanding performance and great dedication. Kudos!”  President Zardari echoed similar sentiments for Arshad Nadeem, saying: “He has once again made Pakistan proud on the international stage with a stellar performance.” The President also congratulated the nation and lauded Arshad’s dedication and composure under pressure.

Arshad dominated the competition with a series of exceptional throws. His third-round attempt of 85.57m took the lead, followed by 83.99m in the fourth round. He sealed the gold with a powerful final throw of 86.40m, his best of the day. This victory marked Pakistan’s first gold in the Asian Athletics Championships in over 50 years, following historic wins by Allah Dada and Muhammad Younis in 1973.

OF THE SOIL, SAYS PCB CHAIRMAN NAQVI

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi also extended heartfelt congratulations to Arshad, calling his triumph ‘a proud moment for every Pakistani’. “Bravo Arshad Nadeem! We are proud of you,” said Naqvi in a statement. He lauded Arshad’s all-out commitment and praised his family and coach for their support.

“This victory is the result of pure dedication and tireless effort. Arshad is a national hero, and the entire nation is rejoicing. Arshad has won hearts by raising Pakistan’s flag high on South Korean soil. Defeating athletes from India and other countries to win the championship is a tremendous honour,” he concluded.

SPORTING ICONS JOIN IN CELEBRATING ARSHAD’S GOLDEN FEAT

Pakistan’s sports fraternity also came together in celebration of Arshad’s landmark achievement. Former Test captain Azhar Ali wrote on X: “So proud of you, Arshad Nadeem. This medal is not just a win, it’s a moment of pride for every Pakistani. Your hard work and faith are truly inspiring.”  Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, former tennis ace and current PTF President, also congratulated Arshad and the nation. “Arshad Nadeem, you beauty! You’ve rocked again with this gold. Congratulations, Pakistan!”

Cricketers Junaid Khan, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and other national and international Pakistani stars also lauded Arshad Nadeem for his performance, calling his victory a moment of national pride and inspiration for young athletes. They lauded the great passion and dedication which helped Arshad record another historic golden triumph for his homeland at such a grand level.
