Verification of academic, professional credentials of teachers ordered in GB

GIlGIT  –  The Education Department of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has issued formal directives to initiate a comprehensive verification process of academic and professional credentials for all teachers employed in educational institutions across the province. A formal notification has been sent to the Director General of School Education in this regard. The directive emphasizes that ensuring the accuracy, qualification, and effectiveness of teachers’ credentials is vital for maintaining the quality of education in the region. Accordingly, a thorough scrutiny of academic and professional documents of teachers working under the School Education Department in all districts will be carried out. The verification process will include checking matriculation, intermediate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees through the respective boards and universities. Likewise, professional certifications such as B.Ed., M.Ed., ADE, or equivalent qualifications and other relevant documents will be validated. These credentials will also be cross-checked with the teachers’ service records to identify any discrepancies. The directive also instructs that all documents be scanned and safely archived, with clear categorization into verified, suspicious, and unverified credentials. Each case must include specific recommendations, especially in instances where forgery or misrepresentation is suspected, so that appropriate departmental action can be taken. Additionally, the notification calls for the formation of verification committees under the supervision of experienced officers at the district or divisional level to ensure the process is conducted transparently and with integrity. A complete report of the process, duly signed and approved by the competent authority, must be submitted to the Secretariat within one month.

The directive, issued by Deputy Secretary of the School Education Department Gilgit-Baltistan, Kumail Abbas, stresses that the task must be completed on a priority basis.
